REACH, the new EU regulation on Chemicals has entered into force since June 1st 2007. REACH stands for Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals. It aims at protecting Environment and Health of consumers and workers. Substances, preparations and articles are all impacted by REACH.

SUBSTANCES: A chemical element and its compounds, in the natural state or obtained by any manufacturing process. Examples of substances include: formaldehyde, phthalate DEHP (plastic), toluene, cadmium, chromium, pentachlorophenol (wood preservative)

PREPARATIONS: A preparation is a mixture or solution composed of two or more substances.
Examples of preparations include: paint, detergent, glue, shampoo . . .

ARTICLE: An object which during production is given a specific shape, surface or design, which determines its function to a greater degree than does it chemical composition.
Examples of articles include: furniture, electronic equipment, clothes, toys and so on.
